Why Do We Recommend Dental Implants?
Dental implants act like natural tooth roots, giving you the stability to eat, speak, and smile without worry. Unlike partials and dentures, implants integrate with your jawbone and protect bone health. They also are not removable by the patient, so there is not a risk of them falling out or leaving the house without your teeth. Our patients often tell us they forget they even have implants since they look and feel so real.
Implant Treatment Assessment
At Treat Dental, we believe in good planning for optimal results. For one or multiple implants, we will start with an iTero digital scan and CBCT radiograph. When multiple implants or front teeth are involved, we will also take a series of DSLR photographs. Dr. Chan will use these records to pre-plan what the restoration (crown, bridge, All-on-X) will look like and where the implants will be placed.
If cosmetics are involved or we need to create more space for the implant restorations to work (through opening the bite or with Invisalign® tooth movement), we will schedule an esthetic evaluation where you sit with the dentist to review your digital plan and options. You will see what your smile will look like before we begin with an in-face visualization photograph or video and a 3D printed model of your proposed treatment. This appointment gives you and the dentist time to adjust details so you feel confident moving forward.
Our team uses cutting-edge CAD/CAM design and 3D printing to create models for multiple single implants and All-on-X full arch solutions. These models let you visualize results with accuracy that older methods could never provide. The dentist can precisely adjust angulation, spacing, and esthetics before treatment begins.
Signs You Might Be Ready for Implants
- You have missing teeth that make eating difficult
- You have one or more missing teeth shown when you smile, impacting your confidence
- You have dentures that don’t fit well, fall out when eating or talking, or irritate your gums
- You wear a partial and want something that looks and feels more permanent
- You have multiple teeth in poor condition that need to be replaced
Full Arch Dental Implants
When the majority of teeth in the upper and/or lower arch are in poor condition or already missing, an All-on-X restoration can restore your full arch with just four to six implants. This solution anchors a complete set of ceramic teeth that stay fixed in place. This offers a wonderful alternative to dentures, both esthetically and functionally. Patients love that they can treat their All-on-X restoration like their own teeth, without worrying about them falling out or having restrictions on what they can eat.
All-on-X is often termed “teeth in a day.” This is because at the time of surgery, implants will be placed and a temporary full arch restoration will also be fitted to the implants. You won’t have a period of time without teeth to chew or smile.
All-on-X is a big commitment financially and emotionally. It is important to choose a provider who is compassionate and will provide guidance throughout the process.
What to Expect During the Implant Process
- Initial consultation with digital records taken (iTero scan, CBCT, DSLR photography)
- Esthetic evaluation with in-face visualization photograph and 3D printed model preview
- Surgical consultation for implant placement with a referred specialist
- Implant placement performed with precision and sedation options by the surgeon
- The healing phase, where the implant bonds with your jawbone
- For All-on-X, a 3D printed full arch trial restoration will be worn for up to two weeks prior to final ceramic to assess function and esthetics
- Final restoration with Dr. Chan that blends seamlessly with your natural teeth
Long-Term Benefits of Dental Implants
Implants preserve your jawbone, prevent shifting of nearby teeth, and improve speech clarity. Many patients notice improved digestion because they can chew thoroughly again. The confidence that comes from smiling without hesitation often improves social and professional interactions, too.
Caring for Your Implants Like Natural Teeth
Dental implants require the same care as natural teeth: brushing, flossing, and regular checkups. Our hygienists use Airflow technology (warm water, air, and erythritol powder spray) to gently clean around implants and ceramic without damaging delicate surfaces. With proper care, implants can last decades or even a lifetime.
